BALGERA

The history of our winery is the history of the Balgera family, starting with the founder Pietro. The historic headquarters, in the center of the village of Chiuro, a few kilometers from Sondrio, has been from the beginning in the ancient Villa Quadrio: a noble residence owned by the local family of the same name, where also Maurizio Quadrio, patriot and lieutenant of Giuseppe Mazzini lived at the time of the unification of Italy.

Today Balgera wines mature and age still in the same place where the activities were in full swing at the end of the nineteenth century: the five generations of the family who have succeeded each other at the helm of the winery have ensured continuity in management, constantly innovating techniques and processing methods.

The first to deal with wine in the family was Pietro Balgera, who began the trade of Valtellina wine products towards nearby Switzerland through the Valposchiavo. His descendants, Leone and Gianfranco, dedicated themselves to developing the business, dealing with both production and marketing, progressively refining the winemaking process and expanding the production spaces. It is with Paolo Balgera that the company took on the modern imprint that today distinguishes it, thanks to the application of modern knowledge in the oenological field to the production method, increasingly technological and entirely devoted to the quality of the wines.

The fifth generation, represented by the brothers Luca and Matteo already active in the company, is from now on a guarantee for the future of the company, which will see the Balgera family still protagonist in continuity with its centenary tradition.
