FATTORIA POMONA

The Fattoria Pomona winery is part of a historic farm located in the heart of the Chianti Classico and whose original nucleus dates back to the second half of the 18th century.

Initially owned by the Ricceri family, the farm was bought in 1899 by Bandino Bandini, who started a thriving agricultural business aimed at producing oil and wine. To emphasize the vigor of the business, the farm was renamed “Pomona”. With the end of sharecropping in the 1950s, the winery had a period of inactivity until Bandino’s nephew, Enzo Raspi, began a long recovery work, carried out today by his daughter.

Monica Raspi is a one-piece winemaker who has decided to leave her profession as a veterinary, to devote her head and heart to her vineyards. The 6 hectares of owned vineyards are located right in front of the winery, which is also Monica’s house, at an altitude of 350 meters with south / south-east exposure in a ventilated area, on limestone-marly soils with the presence of alberese. The vines consist mainly of Sangiovese, with a small share of Cabernet Sauvignon, once used to soften Sangiovese, now vinified alone and a little Trebbiano Toscano. The oldest vines, which reach 30 years of age, are trained with the spurred cordon system, while the younger ones are trained with the guyot system. The vineyard is conducted according to the principles of organic farming: pesticide interventions are limited and fertilizers with low environmental impact are used in order to stimulate the plants to self-defense and harvest totally natural grapes. After the harvest, the grapes are left to ferment on the skins in steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts, naturally present on the skins. As per tradition, the aging lasts one year and takes place in large barrels, able to better preserve the varietal notes of Sangiovese.

The Chianti Classico of Fattoria Pomona stands out for its typicality and elegance, for the aromas that evoke floral and balsamic sensations, combined with a harmonious and graceful drinkability.
